Bertie tax news: w/b 15 June 2026
Updated: Jun 17
For the weekend beginning 15 June, 2026, here's some Bertie tax news.
Joint filing out the window

When it comes to filing your accounts to both the HMRC and Companies House, things have changed.
You used to be able to submit the accounts to both at exactly the same time.
Be warned, this joint service has officially now closed.
You have to make separate digital submissions to each department using your chosen commercial software package.
There's progress for you - twice the work.
Majority still not signed up for Making Tax Digital
Despite best efforts of the UK government and HMRC, just a third of wave one cohort for Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax have volunteered for duty.
A senior partner at a major tax firm sounded the warning as the first quarterly reporting deadline looms (diary date: on 7 August).
The introduction of Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax is being heralded (by the government) as one of the most significant changes to the UK tax system in a generation.
Yet the enthusiasm shown by the masses is somewhat lukewarm.
Although the initiative has been discussed for many years now, many taxpayers and advisers appear to be dithering as we approach a critical stage in its implementation..
Experts are concerned that the question is no longer what is MTD, but will people be ready?
This is all despite HMRC, professional bodies and accountancy firms increasing communication efforts.
The date of 7 August is now just around the corner.
