Spanish government line-up to have a pop at Shakira again

Superstar Shakira recently won back the huge sum of €55 million from the Spanish tax authorities (see our previous blog), but that decision may now be reversed.

A court in Madrid has ordered Spain's main tax authority to return the money, ruling that it was improperly obtained during a dispute over her 2011 taxes.

The case centred on how long the Colombian singer was a full resident in Spain.

Now comes news that Spain plans to challenge the Shakira ruling.

The Spanish newspaper El Pais said that the government’s appeal focuses on whether intermittent travel, so‑called sporadic absences, should count when determining tax residence.

So it's not all over, although the Spanish Supreme Court can choose not to hear the case.

It's unlikely there will be any further development for at least a year.

So, don't spend that money Shakira, they may want it back.
